A milk and molasses enema are used to treat chronic cases of constipation especially in case of impaction or blockage. Some people prefer using liquid milk but powdered milk combined with water and equal parts of molasses is also preferred by a lot of people. Blackstrap molasses is generally used as it is the strongest/concentrated type of molasses available. Extreme caution should be taken when using this combination for the enema as it creates a lot of cramping and is definitely not something to be tried by a beginner. The enema should not be used by someone who is lactose intolerant or has a dairy allergy.

In order to prepare the enema, combine equal parts of milk with molasses until mixed and then heated slightly so that the molasses gets uniformly combined with the milk. Proper care must be taken care of to ensure that the mixture is not too hot to cause any internal burns. The mixture is then required to be transferred to your rubber enema bag kit or stainless steel enema can. The content in the bag should be shaken or stirred if you are looking for a uniform solution.

Lubricate the end of the enema tubing well and gently insert it just a few inches into the rectum. The enema bag or the enema can should be placed at a height to allow the fluid to follow and enter the rectum. The patient should try to hold the enema solution for as long as possible before defecating.

The enema gets you result almost immediately. Usually, a retention nozzle is used for administering the solution into the colon so that the solution does not start leaking out before all the solution has been transferred. Some people even use the retention plug to keep the enema solution inside for a longer duration and get desired results.

A lot of people experience severe cramping as well as abdominal pain when using milk and molasses enema due to the formation of a large amount of intestinal gases formed with the use of this combination. Anyone with daily sensitivity or beginners is suggested to use some other additives for their enema.
